Bad Weather Procedures
Marble Falls ISD Bad Weather Procedures
Marble Falls Independent School District officials take several factors into consideration prior to making a decision about a district closure or delay.
These factors include:
- Student and staff safety
- Parent need to adjust schedules
- District resources to support operations (such as electricity, heat, meals, etc)
- The ability for transportation to access district roads and safely transport students
How Decisions Are Made
MFISD follows the process below when inclement weather has the potential to affect district operations:
- The Superintendent will consult with local emergency management officials, law enforcement officials and with neighboring school districts
- The Superintendent will review meteorological reports from the National Weather Service and other local meteorologists on anticipated weather events, including the predicted timing, amount of rain, sleet or snow that could impact the district and surrounding counties for students, their families, and our staff.
- The Director of Transportation will determine the driving conditions of district roads as early as 3 a.m. to determine accessibility and safety. These conditions are shared with the Superintendent.
- The Superintendent will then make a decision no later than 5:30 a.m. the day of weather if a delay or closure is necessary. When conditions warrant, the decision to delay or cancel school will be made the evening before the next school day. Please note: announcements will not be made when no changes to the school day are made. If there is no communication from the district, schools will continue to operate at usual times and schedules.
How Decisions are Communicated
If and when a decision is made to delay or cancel school, MFISD will notify parents and guardians using ParentSquare. Parents will receive a combination of automated phone messages, emails, and/or text messages, depending on the circumstances. Parent or guardian contact information submitted at the time of student enrollment or updated at the beginning of each school year will automatically be used for notifications through ParentSquare. Communications will be in English and Spanish.
Automated messaging is the main form of communication to families in the event of inclement weather decisions. We also encourage families to check the Marble Falls ISD website, and MFISD social media channels listed below. The district will also share any school day changes with our local media, also listed below.

Types of Inclement Weather Changes
Delayed School Start
A decision to delay the start of the school day will be made by the Superintendent by 5 a.m., and communicated to families by 5:30 a.m.
- There will be a minimum two-hour delay for all school operations
- If your bus normally picks up at 6:44 a.m., plan to be ready for pickup at 8:44 a.m. If the school bell rings at 7:45 a.m., be prepared to arrive at school by 9:45 a.m. Schools will then dismiss at normal times
- Any morning activities are cancelled.
- If weather and road conditions prevent safe travel for you, please do not jeopardize you or your child’s safety.
School Closure
A decision to close school for the day will be made by the Superintendent by 5 a.m., and communicated to families by 5:30 a.m. A decision could be made after an initial delayed school start.
- The school district is closed for the day
- All activities are cancelled unless otherwise communicated to participants
- Continue to monitor the district website, social media channels and local media for updates regarding plans for the next school day. In the event it is necessary to continue a closure or implement a delayed start for the following day, the district will send out a communication.
Early Dismissal
A decision for an early dismissal will be made by the Superintendent when necessary and communicated through the same avenues listed above.
- Students will be dismissed in normal MFISD procedures with elementary students first, and secondary students later. The High School Principal will work with the Superintendent on a potential release of student drivers to help students get home safely.
- Students may stay on campus to be picked up by parents if necessary.
- All activities are cancelled unless otherwise communicated to participants.
- Continue to monitor the district website, social media channels and local media for updates regarding plans for the next school day. In the event it is necessary to continue a closure or implement a delayed start for the following day, the district will send out a communication.
